Department of Information Technology

Degree Awarded : Bachelor of Information Technology (Pune University).

Course Duration : Four Years (Fulltime).

Annual Intake: 60 Seats.

Introduction:

Over the past decade, India has emerged as a key player in the Global IT Scenario. IT industry in India has constantly shown one of the highest growth rates compared to most other industries. Observing the vast potential of these industries the government has set an ambitious target to raise India’s contributions to IT sector.

Information Technology Department is the fusion of computer science with Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Development and application of computer systems comes under this foray. It covers a huge area from the design of digitally integrated circuits to the networking and operation of large computer systems.

Our aim within the Department of Information Technology is to:

  • Provide excellent teaching at all levels in an environment enriched by research so that students may develop intellectually and individually.

  • Produce graduates who are adaptable and alert to the benefits of lifelong learning and who meet the requirements of employers (local, national and international) from all sectors.

  • Maintain a balance of basic and strategic research with a substantial element of contract research and promote learning through the application of knowledge.

  • Optimize the use of resources to improve the working environment and range of services for students and staff.

Career Prospects :

The Information Technology field has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the field has become more important than ever before. The Information Technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include:

  • Data Management

  • Computer Networking

  • Database Systems Design

  • Software design

  • Management Information Systems

  • Systems management

Apart from the job opportunities from Central Government, State Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises, the private organizations and banking, the IT professionals are also absorbed into the fields like entertainment industry (Movies and Advertisement), research and development, education etc.

Considering the requirements of the corporate world, we focus on the following areas:

    • Operating systems,
    • Networking,
    • Software engineering,
    • Database Management Systems

    and application oriented subjects like -

    • Mobile Computing,
    • Network and Information security,
    • Software testing etc.

MAE has signed MOU with Infosys Technologies Limited,IBM,L&T Infotech,Mphasis an EDS company for the purpose of enriching the technical education process and enhancing the quality of education imparted to students of all engineering disciplines in the field of Information Technology.
